Main Event: Alphen Potters Market (Formerly Rondebosch)

Curated by Ceramics Western Cape in partnership with the Alphen Market, this flag-ship event that has been going for 5 decades,  brings together professional and hobbyist ceramicists from across the province in a relaxed outdoor setting, with more time to browse, connect, and purchase directly from the makers.

After many years at Rondebosch Park, the move allows the market to grow -creating space for more makers while continuing to support and celebrate local ceramic craft. A thoughtful outing for those who appreciate handcrafted work and the people behind it.

Sister Event: Imhoff Farm Potters Market

A popular extension in the Far South (Kommetjie) that allows shoppers to browse local pottery in a scenic farm setting.

What to expect: Ceramic stalls spread across the farm grounds alongside permanent farm attractions, restaurants, and artisanal shops. Note: This open-air event is weather-dependent.

Information for Buyers & Traders

• Buying: All items are sold directly by the creators. You can find everything from high-end decorative sculptures to affordable, functional kitchenware.

• Trading: To book a stall, you must be a registered member of Ceramics Western Cape; no re-selling of commercial, mass-manufactured ware is permitted. All items must be handmade ceramics by members. Trader Tickets are on sale 1 month prior to the market via Quicket.

Potters Market Visitor Tips

• Arrive Early: The best collectible pieces and discounted "seconds" items often sell out within the first two hours of opening.

• Pet-Friendly: Both venues welcome dogs on a lead.

• Payment: While most vendors accept card payments or SnapScan, network signals can occasionally fluctuate in outdoor spaces; bringing emergency cash is recommended.

• Visit the Tombola Table at the CWC Info Gazebo where, for only R50, you spin the dice to win amazing ceramics donated by the members in support of the Potters Benevolent Fund. You always win something!
